The University of Bern is an old established institution with origins dating back to the 15th century. With eight faculties and around 160 institutes, it offers a comprehensive range of studies. The student body totals around 10 000, 51% of them women. The faculty of history and philosophy generally attracts the largest numbers. Apart from first degree courses, the University provides various opportunities for postgraduate study, such as the Masters in International Law and Economics (MILE) and the Rochester MBA programme.
